STEUBENVILLE — Steubenville’s July 4th celebration will feature free concerts, food trucks and fireworks displays, all of which will be held in Fort Steuben Park.

The entertainment will be provided by Roz and Lynn and Spinning Jenny, starting at 7pm. Both bands are Ohio Valley bands-Roz and Lynn are a mother-daughter duo from Dillonville, while Spinning Jenny is an alternative rock/pop band composed of Julia sisters, Talia and Angeline and their father John Dr. Balzano.

Fireworks will follow, "usually around 9:45 in the evening," said Mayor Jerry Barilla.

"We will have food vendors in the parking lot, about six, selling hot dogs, ice cream, ice cream, popcorn and similar things," he said. "They will probably arrive around 4 o'clock."

Once, the fireworks were set off in Belleview Park, but Barilla said that they moved them to the city center a few years ago to make them easier to reach.

"You can see them all over the city center, as well as the tops of Pleasant Heights and Labelle," he said. "I think their visibility is very wide, and the chances of entering and leaving the fireworks field are much better. There are a lot of people who live in the city center that can walk to (the fort). It is much easier for them to walk there than to climb the mountain to Belleview. "

"I think this is a win-win situation and we got a good response," Barilla added. "And this year, we spent some money to install fireproof tarps on top of buildings and sewage treatment plants, where they will detonate them."

He said that the sewage treatment plant has a rubber roof and tarps can protect it.
